Date Night with Ume Burger & Cow and Moon

Now who doesn’t love a good date night?!
No matter how old you are, it’s always nice to do something different once in a while just to keep things fun.
Something a bit different from ‘going to the movies’, Good Food Month has you covered by setting up a strategically placed tent right next to the entrance of the Night Noodle Markets, screening the 90s movie 10 things I hate about you.
Now for those of you who don’t know the movie, it’s a 90s take on a Shakespeare piece about taming the shrew. Full of laughs and a few tears, you get to watch Aussie heartthrob Heath Ledger act out a bad boy during his younger years.

The night started off with some drinks – beers from James Squire and wines from Brand’s Laira Wines were handed out at the door and there was a mini bar on the other side of the room serving more wine, beer and some organic non-alcoholic beverages.

Each chair had some sweet tooth snacks strategically placed on them – chocolate covered pretzels and caramel and chocolate covered popcorn from David Jones. Both super tempting to eat before the movie started.

There were two burger session pick-ups – one at 6.45 and the other at 7pm. The two choices of burgers from Ume Burger were chicken katsu with yuzu kosho mayo and the other was a classic burger with American cheese, mayo, tomato and lettuce; each with a side of fries.

The crowd was actually quite good – no one was rowdy or drunk and people were drinking at a good pace surprisingly as the drinks were free!
For the ice creams, the flavours were a passionfruit cream gelato, Mandorla Affogato gelato, mango sorbet, poached strawberries, pana cotta and balsamic vinegar.

We opted for the mango sorbet and poached strawberries, pana cotta and balsamic vinegar gelato. Both equally delicious. The mango sorbet was super refreshing and poached strawberry gelato, super creamy and delicate in flavour with that strawberry hit.
There was ample time to eat before the movie started which was great because it gave you time to unwind a little bit and get through all the mess of eating a burger before focusing your attention on the screen.
The night was definitely a hit and having grown up in the 90s, 10 things was the perfect movie match. Definitely one to check out if you haven’t been before!
