So I’ve decided to write about my adventures in America as I haven’t been doing very well keeping up with my posts from Hawaii.
This is day one.
We started off in Hollywood, Los Angeles and I don’t want to ruin this for anyone wanting to visit but it is in no way anything like what you see in the movies.
For one, Hollywood Boulevard is filled with scammers dressed as famous icons, practically throwing themselves at tourists to try and squeeze as much money out of them as possible. Definitely not my style and I found it rather annoying having people say “here is a free CD” but then ask for a donation of $10 or $20?! People, do not fall for this!
We were pretty much scarred for life so travelled over to Glendale to try the all famous Porto’s Bakery.
When we got there, it was huge! There were two seating and serving areas as well as heaps of choices with food – both savoury and sweet.
After a few minutes of looking through all of the food displays, we settled for the Lechon slow roasted pork mojo with picked onions.
The potato ball which was a mash ball filled with seasoned ground beef, ham croquet and mariquitas which are platain chips.
For dessert we had a raspberry macaron and flan.
Now we have never had Cuban food before so didn’t know what to expect with the savoury foods but they were quite delicious.
We spent the rest of the afternoon chatting with a friend then headed back towards where we were staying at the BVLD Hotel.
We had heard heaps about In n Out Burger so decided to pay them a visit for dinner.
When we got there, there was already a line and no seats left. The word around the streets must true if it’s so busy, right?
Wrong! We found their burgers to be quite ‘average’ and they had strange chips! Anyway, at least I can say that I tried them. One out of two isn’t bad.
